Dayton

Dayton, known as the Gem City, has a strong heritage of innovation with several patents, inventions, and inventors calling Dayton home. Most notably the Wright brothers’ invention of powered flight. Noted for its association with aviation, the city is home to the National Museum of the United States Air Force. This history has attracted a number of high-tech businesses and an assortment of other manufacturing and service activities, some tied to the aerospace, auto, and paper industry, to round out the diverse economy.

Recent economic growth has spurred an urban living revitalization in Downtown Dayton. New housing options are bringing more residents into the area. If you enjoy historic neighborhoods, don’t miss the area’s ten historic neighborhoods featuring mostly single-family houses in a variety of architectural styles.

The Downtown area offers many opportunities for fun and relaxation. Take in a minor league baseball game with our very own Dayton Dragons or enjoy the many activities offered at RiverScape Metro Park. Rich in the arts, appreciate a performance at one of the many theaters, from the ballet to opera or from philharmonic to the Broadway series. Not to be overlooked are the Dayton Art Institute and the children’s Boonshoft Museum.

Enjoy an evening downtown whether it is a savory fine dining experience, kicking back with a pint at one of the several brewpubs, or listening to live music at one of the many venues in and around the historical Oregon District. Be sure to visit the Dayton Arcade, which opened in 1904, built in the hopes of replacing open-air markets throughout the city. A treasure of the downtown area, the Arcade has gone through many transformations and just recently opened after being shut down for several years but has retained its charm.

The Dayton/Miami Valley area offers residents access to over 25 park facilities connected with the Five Rivers Metro Park system. Additionally, the Miami Valley has been named a bronze-level Bicycle community, with every resident living within 10 minutes of a bike path.

Enjoy Midwest urban living at its finest.
